The Hampshire Ladies County Golf Association this week held their annual Championships at Brokenhurst Manor Golf Club.
On Monday 15th May 55 ladies gathered for the Challenge Salver qualifying medal round. The weather conditions clearly played a significant part in the scores returned. The par 3 184 yard 10th hole returned scores ranging from a birdie to a 9. The difficult weather conditions were reflected with no-one posting par or better. However, the top 16 qualifiers were only separated by 6 shots so it was tight at the top.
Lee-on-the-Solent was represented by Lady Captain Karen Hirst, Jackie Urry and Anne Chambers.
Having shot a gross 84 off her 11 handicap Karen finished as the top qualifier with a nett 73. Unfortunately Jackie just missed the qualifying cut.
On Thursday morning in the knockout stages Karen took on 14 handicapper Jenny Steiner from Cams Hall and took the first round with a 6&4 win. The afternoon round was a different match altogether with Karen taking the match on the 19th from Lindsay Dolphin from South Winchester.
On Friday morning Karen faced Kim Homes from Stoneham. Karen won the match 5&4 and qualified for the final in the afternoon. Karen faced Chris Bodey from Rowlands Castle. Karen's putter was on fire and she won the final 4&3. Well done Karen.
Lee-on-the -Solent Ladies were also contesting the Bronze Championships with Ann Elkins, Mary Hazell and Cathy Davies in Division 1 and in Division 2, Penny James.
Ann shot a gross 101 nett to give her the 3rd best nett score.
Well done to all our Ladies who took part and congratulations to Karen on her great win.
